These are the seven areas of learning. These areas track your children's milestones and come together to give you an overview on their development.

Physical development

Providing opportunities for young children to be active and interactive; and to develop their co-ordination, control, and movement. Children must also be helped to understand the importance of physical activity, and to make healthy choices in relation to food.

Communication and Language

Giving children opportunities to experience a rich language environment; to develop their confidence and skills in expressing themselves; and to speak and listen in a range of situations.

Literacy

Encouraging children to link sounds and letters and to begin to read and write. Children must be given access to a wide range of reading materials (books, poems, and other written materials) to ignite their interest.

Maths

Providing children with opportunities to develop and improve their skills in counting, understanding and using numbers, calculating simple addition and subtraction problems; and to describe shapes, spaces, and measure.

Personal, Social and emotional development

Helping children to develop a positive sense of themselves, and others; to form positive relationships and develop respect for others; to develop social skills and learn how to manage their feelings; to understand appropriate behaviour in groups.

Expressive Art and Design

Enabling children to explore and play with a wide range of media and materials, as well as providing opportunities and encouragement for sharing their thoughts, ideas and feelings through a variety of activities in art, music, movement, dance, role-play, and design and technology.

Understanding the world

Guiding children to make sense of their physical world and their community through opportunities to explore, observe and find out about people, places, technology and the environment.

Home Learning

What can you do at home to support your child's development?

At Ruislip Stars we take pride in supporting children's development. We work closely to the guidelines EYFS framework. All planned, learning and play activities are created, tracked and in line with the milestones of each area of learning.

What other support do we offer?

Nursery

At the nursery, we offer a range of support aids for parents at home.

6 weekly report- The children receive a report, showing the parents what their child is achieving in and what their child may need more support with. 3 targets are set in the report, for the children to work towards. With these, there are suggestions on what the parents could do to support these personalised targets at home.

Review meetings- These are planned in at the request of either parents or staff. These meetings happen as Frequently as needed and offer an ideal opportunity to review progress and developmental milestones.

Book bags- Every week, the children get a piece of home work relating to the theme and a reading book to take home. These are replaced with new ones every Wednesday. Occasionally the parents are challenged with surprise home work that encourages the whole family to work and create and interesting and fun outcome.
